Dopamine:The Happy Hormones

Have you ever heard about Dopamine? 

Many of you might have because it's the trending neurotransmitter or hormone in the internet presence in your brain. To those who haven't heard just sit back, & relax because I'm gonna explain to you in simple. Dopamine is called happy hormone because when you do something which is extremely pleasurable then dopamine production sky rockets. Dopamine is also produced right now also when you are reading this but in a very small amount.


You might have got hooked by web pages or social media, at that time the multi-billion dollar company with the world's top neuroscientist aiming for one thing 'your attention' and to get that they hijack your dopamine system. Most of you are in a situation where you want to be productive and do your work but you are doom scrolling even though you don't like it. Then guess what, exactly, your dopamine system was hijacked and you got hooked on their platform giving your important time and attention.


Dopamine makes you feel pleasurable and feels good for a little moment then the reverse happens. What's your favourite food, book or movie? At first when you eat that food, watch and read and you feel extremely happy. Your dopamine is in its peak state. If you eat that food again, watch the movie again, read the book again, then you'll be happy but not like the first time. If you do it 10 times you feel not so good or bored. In the repetition of some pleasurable things your brain gets adapted to tolerate it. So you don't feel that happiness or pleasure when you do it for the first time rather than others.
Then what's the problem with dopamine?

Dopamine is a reward hormone or any sort of motivation to do work. In doing something which can produce lots of dopamine then your brain will be prone to do that. If you do some extremely pleasurable things then your dopamine sky rockets but here's the catch it will drop down. If you can imagine it in a graph then, when it goes up right after that it goes below the base line and you feel kind of worry, regret, shameful, low self-esteem. You also can imagine in a see-saw. If you get a lot of pleasure or dopamine then your see-saw shifts towards you but soon not so late the pain comes and it shifts towards it. Your pleasure is no longer remaining and at this time you feel extremely bad but soon after you feel normal. If you do hard things like exercise, working on your goal which doesn't get instant gratification then your dopamine was below the base line when you were exercising, the pain was stronger against your pleasure but sometimes you feel good about yourself. It is that dopamine which rises & has a good feel comes.

Difference between Happiness and Pleasure


 

Many people misunderstand between happiness and pleasure, let me clear it for you.

Happiness & pleasure are not the same it's whole different. Pleasure is something which you get from instant stimulation and feel good for a very little time. It's an example of drinking alcohol, cigarette, & eating sweets. When you consume  this you instantly feel very good. You get so excited but here's a draw back, you get extremely  pleasurable for sometimes but then you don't feel good. Many of you have felt not so good after consuming alcohol and sweets. You feel bad instead of good. In the middle level school you might have read about Newton's 3rd law it's kinda the same.

Happiness is something which you instantly don't feel good but after a certain period of time you feel a little good but it doesn't have any drawbacks. You don't feel bad after that.You get happiness by doing your important work earlier, achieving your goal. Have you ever found yourself in that happiest scenario where you did all important or hard work like doing exercise, meditating. All of us have felt that way, you aren't alone. It is real happiness & it feels so good than pleasure

So if we know we feel good by happiness & not by pleasure then why do we even like pleasure?
It's because your brain is made like that. You can get an answer if you see the brain from an evolutionary perspective. Your brain's primary function is to make you and for that your brain doesn't wanna spend energy on doing exercise because it doesn't get benefit instantly. Your brain doesn't care about the long term. Your brain is designed like this if something is easy & don't consume a lot of energy then do it & if something is hard and doesn't have a potential outcome right now then there is no need to do it.  It's just gonna take your energy.

Our ancestor was always living in uncertainty. They don't know whether they'll get food today or not so our brain is designed not to waste energy & it has to make you survive if you don't get food. Right now this is not a situation.We are living in comfort time. As we don't have to haunt for food and we get easily just by sitting in front of the computer.

Why Day Dreaming Sucks?

 

 So you might be wondering how the hack day dreaming sucks, many of you'll say it increases your creativity, you make a better plan, you come with new ideas. Well, that may be true but let me explain to you briefly whether it is worth it or not so don't worry about it. So day dreaming refers to spending time on thinking about the past which has gone and the future which hasn't happened. These are the things which you don't have control over. It is like sitting in the passenger seat of your vehicle or life. The only thing you can control is a present or gift.

So, why does day dreaming sucks? Day dreaming takes you to the journey in which you don't have control. You can remember the last time when you were day dreaming, were you happy? Maybe not, right. In the day dreaming when you are in the past you are guilty, embarrassed and if you're in the future then you're anxious, stressed and if you're in an imaginary world then it's completely wasted of time and energy of your and it's not reality. So these are the things no one loves to have. So why do you still day dream? Ask yourself. Be in the present and feel the beautiful environment around you. Trust me, they can make you happy, bliss, more joy than anything else. You'll feel the world's beauty from inside. You don't have or need any external factor to make you happy. It is inside of you and everyone. The natural state of homo sapiens was never depressed, anxious or sad but it was joy, happy. So take advantage of this fact and be happy and smile. 😊

Did you ever feel where you just wanna do stuff done and be productive but you later on find out you just wasted your time and energy on day dreaming. Day dreaming sometimes feels like you wanna get out and do work but you get hooked or stuck there just like when you watch tiktoks or reels. You may feel you are enjoying day dreaming but after you get out of that illusion you just feel miserable and get attacked by all negative emotions.

Your brain lied to you as it didn't wanna work hard. Your brain wants you to stay in your comfort zone and never go outside of it. The brain's primary function is to survive and to survive you have to gain energy and not lose more energy on useless stuff so your brain will not do things which are energy draining as it has to save its energy for future use. But where we are living everyone might not have a problem with getting food so we don't have to save energy and do hard things and stop doing comfortable day dreaming.

Many people have the myth that they get an idea while day dreaming but can you guess how many ideas are implemented, a lot lesser than you think. More than that you can get if you start doing work and you naturally get it. If you have ideas and you didn't implement it then it's worth nothing. There's no difference in having ideas and not having ideas. So start working instead of day dreaming and you'll see a lot of good things happening. People don't talk about this because if you stop day dreaming and get serious and start working then that will be problematic for them.

Build stronger mind and discipline

Meditation 

Have you ever been in a condition where you just want to finish your work and be proud of yourself and feel superior when you see yourself in mirror and you are internally satisfied with what you just did. You feel super good, happiest person in the world, and your motivation at that point of time is on the peak. You are in the lets go zone, where you feel you'll conquer the world and be the productive person and get your all work done and never gonna take rest. All of you might have this feeling somewhere in your life. You can remember and definitely you are also part of just like this. 

In most of the case, you just watch a 'so called motivation ' video and you come to conclusion that you'll do everything and everyone around you is loser and you are the only winner or successful person arrive from that queue. The speaker also gives the example of highly successful and if they can why can't you and so you get influenced by them and you probably do work but you may know the motivation is kind of myth or it is pseudo friend which stay with you for maximum of few days. But I know some of you lose motivation right after that video. It is kinda funny to look you from the third or second person perspective, but deep down only you know that feeling how hard it is to work when your motivation just faded away. Now you don't feel any good to do things and that's the problem with motivation. It works like give you initial fuel but leaves you alone after that. 

So how can you fix that is the most ask questions when someone says motivation is myth. Some of you say, well build discipline it will never fades away. And that's true you need and have to build self-discipline to achieve meaningful in the long run. All of the successful people are discipline and without discipline you'll lost in the shadow of disciplined person. Discipline means doing the thing you don't want to do even if it is difficult and it hurts but do it just anyway and it should be meaningful and helpful for you to achieve your goals. 

Ok! I got everything but how can i build discipline 
You can find random person on the internet yapping and discussing their tips and tricks or hacks to get god level discipline. Have you ever tried any of them ? Of course many of you haven't. I am not a mind reader but I know. The problem with their tips is most of them are impracticable and useless and many of them don't have tips, they just want to hook you and want to earn money. But don't be a product and your attention matters to you. And I'll tell you one funny thing that I just hook you and made you come to this far and don't worry unless like random YT videos your attention won't hamper and you'll learn something special. 

I'll tell you little bit possible in simple language about brain and how to build discipline and don't worry I know many of you aren't from neuroscience background. So there is the region on your brain named 'anterior mid cingulate cortex'. I know it is too much heavy word but you can think as just a part of your brain. So the beauty of neuroscience or your brain comes here . Whenever you do the hard things or the thing you don't wanna do then you're anterior mid cingulate cortex grow but it's should be thing that you hate and continue to do. That's how our brain has developed and you might have heard that people say, "Oh! you are so lucky you got bless of strong mindset"  but guess what that's absolutely false. No one born with the strong or weak mindset, it's just a thing you have to build.

If you have a normal brain like any other person then you're mindset is determined by your past experience and the truth is that the god or universe or whatever you called has never discriminate on the power of your brain. The person you think who is highly successful or famous or doing good in life or stable has same brain just like you. The matter of the fact is that they chose a hard path rather than chilling and procrastinating. It is just your suffering which makes you strong mind person abd discipline. 
The more you do hard things the great and stronger your mind becomes.

You might think or have a belief that your life would be so boring and difficult but that's not true to be honest and the people who follow this never felt like this and you maynot believe but they are more happy than the chill guy. The time is passing anyway so even if you do hard things and felt miserable then you'll feel good after that time and the reward you get will be a lot sweeter than you ever felt.
